Impulsive  learning style can be found in SfS unit 2. Here is a quote:
Impulsive learners are faster thinkers. They usually enjoy making guesses. THey are also willing to be wrong sometimes.

People who are impulsive have certain advantages and disadvantaes when learning a language.
Advantages:
  1. more willing to speak in class
  2. faster reading
  3. better in timed tests

Disadvantages
  1. less accurate in speaking
  2. less accurate in reading
  3. act without thinking enough
The opposite of impulsive is reflective learning.

Multiple Intelligences is a theory proposed by Howard Gardner that divides intelligence into seven or more types. Every person has varying degrees each intelligence. Knowing your strengths can help you become a more effective language learner.

In English you can learn more about MI at wikipedia and Accelerated Learning. I would strongly encourage you to learn about multiple intelligences in Korean as well so that you have a better understanding.

If you would like to take a quiz to find your strengths you can try one of the following.

Many students have trouble when writing in English and do not write in paragraphs. It is very important to write in paragraphs as that is the normal, correct method of writing. It is also easier to read. Finally if your writing is organized in paragraphs it will be more organized. Below is an example of poor student writing.
My name is Kim Chul Soo.
My major is Electronic Engineering.
There are four people in my family.
My father, my mother, my sister and me.
I like basketball, soccor, and playing starcraft.
I live in sadang.
it is very far from school
I like Hanyang university.
I want to study hard this semester.
As you can see it is very simple and does not look like a paragraph. It looks like poetry, but it isn't poetry. When writing you should always use paragraphs. All books, newspapers, and magazines are written in paragraphs. Also if you visit English communities you will notice that everyone writes in paragraphs. Below is my introduction. You can see that it is written in paragraphs. Please write all of your entries in paragraphs.

Hi everyone,

My name is Mr. Handsome, or James Bond, or Mr. Homework. But you can also call me Sean. I'm from Canada and have been living in Seoul since 1997. I have been teaching at Hanyang University since September 2005. Before that I was teaching at Kookmin university and Seoul Women's University.

I enjoy designing and building web sites (I have 5). My favorite drink is Starbucks coffee and I go to starbucks every Saturday and Sunday to read books and drink coffee. I'm married with one daughter and one son. I look forward to reading your introductions.

I do not like sports or being outside. I prefer to stay inside and read books, work on my web sites, watch movies and play with my family. We also play many board games at home. My favorite board game is Scrabble, but I also like; monopoly, risk, & cranium. If I cannot play a board game, I will play card games. Some of my favorite card games are; hearts, cribbage, hand & foot, and poker.

Reflective learning style can be found in SfS unit 2. Here is a quote:
Reflective people usually like to think quite a lot before making a decision. They need to be certain of hte right answer before trying it out. They slowly move ahead in logical steps.
people who are reflective have certain advantages and disadvantages when learning a language.
Advantages:
  1. more accurate speaking
  2. more accurate reading
  3. think carefully before acting

Disadvantages
  1. wait too long to speak
  2. read more slowly
  3. slower in timed tests
The opposite of reflective is impulsive learning.

S..M.A.R.T refers to the five key concepts in a successful goal.

  • Specific - A goal needs to be very specific in order to determine if you have succeeded or failed.

  • Measurable - is similar to specific but it allows you to choose an exact point at which you succeed or fail.

  • Acceptable - do you believe in your goal in your heart? if you do then your goal is acceptable. Choosing a goal because your parents, teachers, or someone else wants you to have a goal is not acceptable. You must truly believe your goal in your heart.

  • Realistic - This means that it must be possible to attain your goal. if your goal is to become a translator by next year but you are still a beginner then your goal is not realistic. However if you want to be a translator 5 years from now then that is possible.

  • Time oriented - A goal must have a deadline. If you want to get 850 points on the TOEIC exam sometime in the future you will never succeed. You need to set a date; 3 months from now, October 15, on my birthday, next month

  • Extendable - A large goal should be broken down into smaller sub-goals. When a small goal is acheieved, extend your goal to keep improving. You might expand your goal into new areas. For example if your goal focused on speaking and listening and you have achieved that you will then extend it to perhaps vocabulary and reading.

  • Recorded - You need to write your goal down and read it every day. It is important to look at your goal to help maintain your motivation. A good strategy is use post-it notes and place them where you will regularly read them.

Here is are two good example goals:

I currently have 680 points on the TOEIC exam. My goal is to get 750 points within three months time. I believe in this goal because I want to become a KATUSA and I need this score as one of the requirements.

I want to be able to speak on the telephone in English with other English speakers for 15 minutes or longer with no problems when discussing issues related to my major. I intend to achieve this goal by next July.

Finally a checklist for you to consider:

Recorded – I have written my goal down so I can review it daily.

When discussing watching TV of movies many students talk about watching the show without captions. this term is incorrect. The correct term is subtitles.

When watching TV or Movies to improve your English I strongly recommend watching them with English subtitles. The image below shows the movie Almost Famous with English subtitles.
