My name is Sean Smith and I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba which is right in the centre of Canada. I lived in Winnipeg until I graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1995 when I moved to Vancouver on the west coast. While I lived in Vancouver I worked at a warehouse ordering computer parts for a major electronics distributer in Canada. The job was challenging but also boring and tedious so I eventually quit and decided to come to Korea.
I arrived in Korea on May 29th, 1997 at 6:30am. I worked at a small hagwon near Hongjae station for one year, but I did not enjoy teaching children. I did however discover that I enjoyed teaching and loved living in Korea so I moved on to YBM in Chongno and eventually worked at the Korea Herald for 18 months before starting work at my first university position with Seoul Womens University.
I worked at Seoul Women's University for 3 years and 2 months. While there I met a lot of good friends, both Korean and foreign and discovered how exciting teaching English can really be. It was at this time that I started my first web site for students. That web site was very simple because at that time I did not know very much about web design, but it was a very good learning experience for both myself and my students.

In March 2004 I started teaching at Kookmin University, which I enjoyed because it was much closer to my home and a new challenge. However I had wanted to work at Hanyang University for a long time because three of my friends were working there and telling me about how great the students and facilities are. I applied in Spring 2005 and started teaching in fall 2005. At the time of writing this Hanyang is everything I expected and more.

During my time in Korea, I started a Masters in Applied linguistics and completed it in June 2005 with distinction. However, the most important event was when I met my wife who is Korean. We were married in October 2000 and now have two children. My daughter was born in February 2002 and my son was born in February 2006.
My hobbies including reading, drinking coffee and computers. I will read almost anything and it is very uncommon to see me without a book nearby. I often do my reading at Starbucks since another of my favorite pasttimes is drinking coffee. Finally I enjoy using computers and can do almost anything on a computer. I have built and maintain six web sites, made a movie and other computer oriented tasks. However, I do not play computer games.
